For many years the Todd family were beef farmers in Ireland but in 1990 they bought Blacketyside Farm and resettled just outside Leven in Fife.
The farm, over 285 acres in all, was mostly cereals with a small area devoted to soft fruit. Robert knew nothing about soft fruit growing but never the less that is what he decided to concentrate on. It was, by his own admission, a steep learning curve but today his soft fruit business is thriving. Robert grows over 70 acres of raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and, of course, red and green gooseberries. In the past few years they have planted cherry trees and are now one of the very few growers producing Scottish cherries.
Robert also runs a very successful farm shop that stocks, and cooks with, a terrific range of local produce. If you’re in that neck of the woods then do drop by.
